Z3 Rear Window Trim
My 1996 Z3...it is cherry but now that it is ten years old, some of the parts are just failing. I have only 20,000 miles on this roadster but have now a problem with the trim on the back windowl. It cracked in a fold seam in the middle of the left side.
One of the local experts in boat fabric/headliners/etc advised that there was nothing that could be done except 1. live with the rubber trim broken (doesn't affect the window-no leaks), or 2. buy a new top. I quote, "it can't be fixed".
Is there anyone that has found a solution to this problem?
Hum, I've never dealt with that personally, but I can't imagine something like that that "can't be fixed." There's always a way. Hopefully someone else on here will have some good ideas, haha.
Do you by chance have any pictures of the problem? Or actually, I'd be curious to see pictures of your car in general, maybe post a thread up in the Car Showroom.

To me it sounds like the trim where the window meets the fabric. If it is, the best thing to do is see if it's possible to cut it out and sew in a new one. I know many people do this to replace the window with a tinted or newer window without scratches. If that isn't possible, then you probaly will need a new top like you mentioned.
Not knowing where you're located marine/boat dealers have access to specialists who do that sewing & replacement. Avoid the headliner guys, they are not equipped like marine upholsterers are.

The same thing happened to my 98 Z3. The only solution I found was to replace the rear window. The trim is attached to the window. My solution - ordered a new one from emiata.com and replaced myself with the help of the instructions that accompanied the window, about 90 bucks with shipping and a couple of hours.
