^^You said that too.
Well after reading sci84 sutuation, i'll say keep the truck. Buying the x5 would increase his monthly payment and he still has a good new nice truck.

No you got it all wrong.
I said I'd consider it if it were a 4.4 or 4.6. But not a 3.0.
Well, not a good new truck now....it's been backed into.

what's wrong the 3.0? that's a good engine!!! with a manual i'm sure it would be plenty fast enough. it's a friggen suv for christ sakes, it doesn't need to be a sports car acceleration numbres.

Well I own a 4.4 X5 so I'm a little biased but if it were a manual 3.0 then I would be all over the X5 instead of the Tacoma but it also really depends on what you're needs are. Certainly the utility of a truck bed had it's advantages but if an SUV fits your needs then an X5 with the Sport Package rocks. It should be also noted that a bigger engine is always more desirable but BMW really gets in your shorts when you go to the better engine.

bigger engine=even heavier
you need to find the perfect point between power and weight

The added horsepower of the 4.4 way more then compensates for the extra weight. The real question with BMW's is do you want to pay the added cost for the bigger engines. In the instance of the X5 I would say yes because the 3.0 would be under horsepowered for my tastes. Last time I look at prices I wouldn't be willing to say that on a 745 vs. the 760
