2002 X5 3.0 blower resister
My blower runs when engine off and runs down battery. I removed the resister/controller, which I had much difficulty finding, and it doesn't look exactly like the replacement parts shown in the online parts catalogs. It's more square and the part # is BMW 64.11-8 383 835 (GKR 9 140 010 428). The parts catalogs show it as 0155.1017. Did I remove the wrong part?
Thanks in advance.

blower fan problem
Did you get an answer to your fan problem? I'm having the same issue with my 2003 X5.

X5 blower problem
I located the problem and fixed it. It was the blower resister (blower controller). The part can be bought online for about $80 or at your BMW dealer's parts dept for around $130. The tough part is locating the resistor. You have to remove the glove box, black air duct, and console side panel on the passenger side (US). You will then find the resistor high and back near the firewall behind the console. The easiest way to locate it is to follow the only 5 wire bundle to its destination. Simply unplug the wires, press the two side clamps, and remove the resistor. Then plug the wiring harness into the new part and slide back into place until the clamps snap. The hardest part is reinstalling the glove box! The dealer will charge you about $450 to replace it. You can do it, just try.
