2001 X5 wiper problems

Hey all this is my 1st post. My X5 wipers go about 1/8th up the windshield then park everytime i start the car. They do not work when i try to use them, the wiper washer still works, everytime i start the car the are moving on their own with the wiper lever placed in the park postion. Any one heard of this before? I got to this site vai googling the problem and saw a thread about coming in here to download the ETM. But could not find anywhere on here to download the manual to assit me with trouble shooting either. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks
