2007 Frankfurt Auto Show: BMW X6 Concept
FRANKFURT, Germany — BMW has had success with its X5, and now it's trying to make the most out of the idea. The X6 "Sports Activity Coupe" concept made its official debut at the 2007 Frankfurt Auto Show today, and is expected to appear in showrooms quite soon.
Chris Bangle strikes again. His controversial flame surface design is now apparent on a whole generation of BMW models. Bangle's dynamic side is shown by the way he lopped off parts of the X5's roof to come up with the X6. Sure, the process was more sophisticated, but you get the idea.
If you're over 5-feet-10, you'll have to be really careful when you enter the X6, but BMW officials are convinced that potential customers will focus more on the car's styling than its usability.
In addition to this concept, BMW is showing an ActiveHybrid version at Frankfurt that combines a gasoline engine and two electric motors. An intelligent two-mode active transmission enables smooth power distribution.
The production X6 is slated to appear next year, with a hybrid version expected soon as well.
What this means to you: BMW is reaching out to fashion-forward customers
