So I was at the Monterey Historics at Laguna Seca in Monterey, California this past weekend. There was some awesome racing going on.
They divide the cars into categories depending on which series and time period they raced in. The cars ranged from 1918 to 1970's. They had some exhibition runs by various cars as well.
This year's featured manufacturer was Chaparral. If you are unaware of their history in racing... they were the first to really benefit from aerodynamic structures and the first to really experiment with downforce producing wings.
They produced one car that had a wings front and rear which would increase in pitch when entering a turn, increasing the downforce on the front and rear of the chassis.
They also engineered a car with two snow-mobile engines in the rear which would suck the car to the track increasing downforce and cornering speed.
Both of these cars were banned from racing after just one race due to the immense performance gap they created between the other cars in the class.
Aside from the hundreds of race cars at the event, there were even more street cars that were absolutely gorgeous. There was a BMW corral which housed over a hundred M3's from different eras and 15+ M5's, a Ferrari corral with probably 30+ Ferraris, a Porsche corral, Corvette, Lotus, Cobra, and Lambo corral.
Enough talk.... on to the pictures:
