its annoying me these days how common the misconception is that speed is a killer.

the message should be: dont use a subaru as your brakes.

jeremy clarkson said on top gear, 'speed doesnt kill you. its slowing down really quickly, thats what gets you'

my parents were involved in a huge crash on the autobahn half a year ago
it was in a two-lane area, and right of them there was a short acceleration strip from the upramp. There were two cars accelerating there, so my dad switched to the outer lane to give them space. Well, all out of a sudden, the 2nd one of the two cars tried to overtake the first one, without looking in the rearview mirror, of course. So my dad slammed the brakes, and managed just in time not to hit the car in front (he used to drive rally at some point in his life). The car in front swerved nonetheless because the driver jerked the wheel out of surprise that there was suddenly a Benz coming at him. That very second, my parents (they were in a rented C-Class) were pushed into the swerving car and the other car by an E-Class whose driver didn't brake in time.
Result: My parents weren't insured badly (thanks god), but the C-Class burned, the E-Class and the other two cars were totalled
