National Day of Silence

this took place last wednesday. I did it, I think the whole gay rights is the next big civil rights fight (as compared to that that the african americans went through).

we handed out these cards for everyone that said something to us.

DISCUSS!

That's a powerful idea... I'm kind of surprised I didn't hear about it on the news. Or was it more locally oriented?

Spieluhr 05-09-2005 06:10 PM

i read about it on the internet a long time before it happened and actually didn't hear about it again till the day before. and it was not just a local thing.

Do you have any connection to the gay rights movement personally (yourself, family, or friends).... or just find it interesting without a personal backing?

Torque 05-09-2005 06:15 PM

Yay ! Gays protesting. That's not healthy.

ya seriously. you didnt educate anyone about gays
you definatly didnt make the world a better place, well except the rest of us got a day with out having to hear the people who would participate in this type of thing.

Spieluhr 05-09-2005 08:24 PM

your the ignorant kind of people who think that the world can't change. now granted you will never end racism, sexism, or any kind of predjudice. but for the sake of those who have to deal with people that just hate gay people cause their gay and don't see the whole picture, you have to try and educate people like that. I personnally talked with a lot of people who kind of saw the whole thing in a new light.

PS: the reason most people (guys in perticular) are homophobic is because they are insecure with themselves. They cannot even question the possibility that they may be gay, if you can't question yourself you'll never learn anything about yourself, and you'll only be living in denial.

PSS: On a lighter note, it was really cool not talking for a day, I would definately do it again just so I don't have to talk. People talk about such useless bullshit now-a-days it was nice not having to take part in it.

beem 05-09-2005 08:35 PM

what exactly is the whole picture with gay people other than the fact that they like it up the butt?

and how do you have the nerve to compare African American slavery with gay peoples problems????? Please explain

Longhairedhippy 05-09-2005 08:52 PM

i had a response to that, but it really isn't worth the attempt.

xsperf 05-09-2005 08:52 PM

yea we had that in our school like a month ago, also on wednessday. i only saw one loser who did it, and i told him if i i started dissing your mom + dad or holding a gun up to ur face, would u talk...

seriously, gay rights, yes, let them live, but hell no, dont let them marry each other, whats next, adoption? seriously, imagine a child growing up and saying "I have no mom, just 2 dads" dude thats gotta be the most screwed up kid you can ever have

oh yeah, and the thing about that there is a gene for being gay, thats the biggest bunch of BS ever.. lets see here, if there was a gene for being gay, and gay people cant reproduce, it would die out.

i TOTALY agree with everything you just said

Joey 05-09-2005 08:55 PM

Whoa, hey, chill.
I was just asking, I wanted to hear what you thought you were doing.

It wouldn't help for me to share my thoughts on homosexuality, so I won't; my point was that I see people protesting all the time around here (lots of special-interest groups in West Virginia, actually), and at the end of the day, that's just what they're doing. They protest, they state a problem, and make it known that they want that problem recognized or addressed. I understand some part of what it is to be ostracized for living a certain lifestyle, and I understand that broadcasting "Homosexuals have it tough" doesn't manufacture compassion or change.

It's not right to keep quiet in the face of injustice because you can't change the world, either. I don't want to say that no one cares, or it's a lost cause, or there's no point in trying. There's reason in promoting awareness in and of itself, separate from asking for change. But everyone knows about homosexuals' rights.
