Documents Question - United Bimmer Community

Okay, so my great grandparents were born in Italia and married in Italia. I don't know their exact dates of birth. I do not know their parent's names, either. Any ideas how I can go about getting their birth certificates and marriage documents? Any help is appreciated IMMENSELY! Thank you.

Do you know there full names? If you do try emailing the italian consulate.

Do you know which village or city they came from? The local churches maintained birth records long before government took over.

I found the village priests to be very helpful.

Hmmm, I have a rough idea of what area they came from, but no specifics. I am going to try checking with immigration here in the States. I should be able to get marriage records from the church, too, right?

Yes the local churches kept marriage records too.

i would try postal mailing them vs. emailing them.

postal mail is more official. email is just there.

email doesn't show the that you are willing to match the amont of effort that they are going to have to put into to doing this for you. go with postal mail, its more professional (crontray to waht most american business men think)

also try baptismal records, those are often better maintained than birth records and would have included the mother and father's names.

aaaaah baptismal records. haven't thought of that.
I THINK i have figured out where they came from. I found their names on a couple of passanger ship lists (though, my gtgrndfthr traveled separately from the rest of the family). It seems as if everybody came from Melfi and left through Naples. I'm hoping they actually CAME FROM Melfi and didn't move there from someplace else. I'm guessing they probably were raised there as it appears to be a southern farming town.

How could I find the churches to inquire with them? I think they were Roman Catholic, as my grandfather was baptised R.C.

I would ask my local catholic church if they might be able to help you get a list of catholic churches in the town you are looking, they may or may not help you but there is a list.
