one of my classes this semester is Technical Writing. Our first assignment is to create a company and then write up a proposal for it so you can get money to start up.
My company of course has to do with BMW's Its called E30 Autosport of Baltimore, and it features the following services:
-performance parts
-replacement parts
-Shop with full and self service
-Performance driving school
the shop probably needs explaining, and its kinda what i like the most about it. there is full service, meaning you can have a technician install performance or replacement parts for you, or you can do it yourself using their facilities (i know there is probably huge legal liabilities, but thats doesnt matter in the class).
o yeah, its for all BMW's, not only the E30.
now for some this wont matter, but for people like me, i dont have vast facilities where i can do major work. so i would love to go to a place like this. on top of that, it will have a lift, or probably better, a pit you drive the car over.
part of this is finding the need for a place like this, so i am wondering, if this place were actually built, would you all go there?
i ask, because i am here in the lab during class, and i am supposed to be finding evidence for the need of this, but i have no idea where to look!

I would definetly go there if you provided service for E34 models, wich Im most certain you would. Because if you limit yourself too much, your buisness might not do too well, right?
When you open, and turn it into a world wide franchise, I'll open an edmonton chapter.
Umnitza now provides a mechanic to install all parts ordered right in the box! It's their new "Total customer service program" that will eliminate all the haters and keep incompetents from breaking **** and blaming the vendor! When you are all set simply call INS and they will pick him up free of charge.
DECA is a school work program, but they want you to use your brain not just work a "go-nowhere job".
CELS, I'd go to your shop for alot of reasons: 1st, access to parts that you could see, touch & examine (not mail order) The "use the bay thing is a cool idea but would be a nightmare to maintain or be abused. But having access to a tech when needed & supplies would be cool as long as it wasn't close to dealership rate$ or it would be just a dealer that did perf parts. Plus meeting other BMW folks there would be a good incentive also. You know someone has done this already - it's called Harley Davidson
o well. anyway, thats kinda the idea. also, in thinking about it and the Prof telling us what we have to do, i was thinking of incorporating a dealer type association with companies like BMP and bav auto, etc. their parts, their prices, etc.
but thanks c1apton, and everyone else, this is a lotta help! ub.c ftw.

An idea might be to allow people to order parts from various affiliated companies like Bavauto, for example, and have the parts shipped to your shop so people can come and install them when they want, or have you do it for them.
Edit: Of course I don't see how that would be different from people buying parts online and having them shipped to their house and then just bringing them to your place. Unless it's a part too big to fit in their car or something...
I would definitely go there. To work, I think such a business should require some sort of registration and a security deposit. I have wished for a place with specialty tools that I could just use every so often to work on my car. I would sign any disclaimer necessary and pay whatever small rental and use fees to have access to such facilities.
You could also teach an ocassional class on simple stuff, such as filter/fluid changes, etc.
Obviously there would be a ton of legal implications, and you'd have to better define what 'self-service' actually entails, but yes, I would go to a place like that.
