say hello to my lil project!

check it out.

http://www.blinkfile.com/view-1276#

my soon-to-be baja bug

i havnt bough it yet cause i cant get ahold of the guy. but if he wants about 500 or less, im getting it. the engine looks like it MIGHT run but i doubt it cause its been sitting there for longer then i can remember. the body is perfect. the interior is perfect.

the plan:

buy it for 500 or less.

take the body appart (fenders, hood, trunk lid, bumpers)

sell the listed body parts above on ebay for some extra project money.

buy and install a baja kit.

buy and install baja bumpers and step side rails.

buy and install wheel spacers( i think thats what they are called. but makes it have a wider look.)

all this is giong to be in my price range.

and to top things off, buy a couple cans of black spray paint and go at it. bwhahahhaha.(only for a little while). oo, and maybe some orange flames too! lol

now, all this is going to happen IF the guy ever answers his phone and IF he sells it for less then 500(wich im sure he will). wish me luck

Not very hard, but it is more work than just having the picture right in front of me. I just think it is common online forum courtesy to resize and embed pictures. I am not trying to start anything here, relax.

Anyhow, nice baja. Remember? I was the one who guessed it in your new car thread. Let us know about the engine, etc.

Should be a cool project. I'm actually engineering a 356 porsche speedster replica for the company I am working for right now. So I am getting a lot of experience with the old VW parts from the bug since that is what the kit is based off of. Everything is very simple and should be relatively cheap and easy to work on.

A few suggestions though. Don't just throw on wheel spacers. They make transmission kits with extended track widths. Spacers will just move the wheel center far off the bearing causing it to wear out much faster and screwing up your suspension geometry. Same goes for the front. Get new longer control arms designed for wider track applications so you don't have handling issues.

Many companies make aftermarket engine mods for the VW air cooled engine. You should easily and cheaply be able to get it running, and with more power than stock. Dual carbs is a popular mod that will easily boost your power (unfortunately fuel consumption too). I'm sure you will have plenty of time to research this and make decisions though.

Good luck on the project!

yes, i have been doing alot of re-search on these things for a while(few months) so i should be good to go . but, i didnt relize wheel spacers would mess it up that bad. i said wheel spacers cause the other stuff ill need to get it wider i wont have the money for. and the wheel spacers would be a "just for now" type of thing. but i think ill avoid it anyways. and i havnt found thos transmission kits anywhere. if you could give me a link/phone number where i can buy them that would be great.

and btw, ill be getting most of my parts from www.chirco.com

I'll have to find out where we get the kits from. We're on the west coast so I'm not sure if it will be much help. Spacers will work, but if you plan on using it for off road there is just a higher chance of something breaking.
