Anyone see it yet? I thought it was hilarious. Don't wanna spoil it for anyone so I'll reserve my thoughts till later. Being a Jersey boy, I'm a big fan of Kevin Smith. Apparently, Joel Siegel hated the movie . .

wrong. te real reason is that the first film had a budget of $50k and that's just enough to buy the color film. they needed the moeny to pay for post production and the use of the convenience store.
Additionally, the whole film was shot at night, yes even the ones outside that you think are during the day. they use high power spot lights to shite on the set to make it look like its daylight. The convenience store is an actual place in south jersey and the owner would only let them shoot at night.
I noted what your friend pointed out too, but it was just a coincidence, the truth is they were dirt poor and couldn't afford color film.

You have three choices, stand behind our troops, grab a gun and toe the line with our troops, or stand in front of them, they can use the extra armor.

xsperf, your opinion is quite valid; that's the thing about Kevin Smith- you either like his stuff or you don't.
The first one was a budget college film project, which he never intended or thought would even make it to the Cannes & Sundance Film Festivals, much less take home awards. The budget was actually less (about $27k), made up of mostly credit card purchases and selling off portions of his comic book collection. But the Clerks II screening got an 8min standing ovation at Cannes.
I'll reveal this because it won't ruin the film for you guys planning to see it. After the end credits, he lists all the friends on his myspace . . around 6 thousand names
