Speeding ticket advice.

I got a ticket a while back, i was clocked at 57 in a 35 but the cop reduced it to 45 in a 35.

Basically i am paying for it and am recognizing that i was speeding, but is there any way i can avoid getting the points on my license?

Ive heard alot of people on forums talk about doing traffic school, etc, but i cant seem to find much info about that for my state.. im not sure if MA even does that..

anything you guys think would help would be great.

Small update about my car too, im going to be fixing it and the insurance company is paying up, i should be getting a check this week.

I had to do traffic school... sorta. It was a 3 hour long course (only once) where you shared experiences and watched a video with an idiot's test. But that was for recieving 6 pts on my license (at 12 you loose your license). It was court ordered.

so you did 22 over and the cop got you down to 10 over.... nice guy. So instead of a 3 or even 4 point ticket, you got a 2 pointer... that's a sweet deal already. If you go to court... it may hurt you, not sure, guess it depends on the cop/judge/prosecuiter.

I know I really didn't answer your question... sorry about that.

So basically all i could do is request traffic school instead of receiving the points on my license?

well, no, it's a reduction in points. for NJ, it was 3 pt reduction. Since I had a 6 pt ticket, I got cut down to 3 pts. Don't get that confused with insurance points. Those don't change as easily. I may of reduced my license pts, but my insurance points were still pretty high.

If it is your first, just go in talk to the court people, typically the first is a get out of jail free card, and they wont give any points

They probably don't offer driving schools to Masshole drivers b/c all of your licenses should be revoked

J/K man, I'm sure they are available. AAA puts them on here in NH and like Dough said, it is a reduction of points after you take the course, but you do get them on your record first.

I don't know if I have any points on my license for my tickets because the two times I went the judge kept saying lets act as if this was your first offense for both tickets. Can I go to the DMV?

I think that some states only offer traffic school for reduction of points, and also to save on insurance.

First off, always go to court. Fight every ticket. The worst that can happen is you end up paying the ticket. So you really are in a no lose situation. I went to court on the 3rd for 16 over which would have been 4 points (same as dui, go figure) the cop didn't show. I won. I can't speak for mass, but in PA you can appeal the summary conviction for a new trial. So the old one doesn't count and everything is new. So as long as you don't plea, you can can appeal. And if you are convicted you should appeal, mostly because the penalty doesn't go up, just your chances of getting off.

In PA a lot of places will plea down to a no-points violation so they don't have to split it with the state, but the state is getting wise to it, so there is no guarentee.

Now if you ask a cop they will always say pay it and move on with your life. (unless you know a cop and are good friends with them, then they say go to court and just explain it to the judge)

Good luck and keep us posted.

in my experience, if you pay the ticket, you plead guilty, if you plead guilty, the points are added to your license.

if you go to court, you can get a lawyer, fight it with him for no points OR go to court and plead not guilty and ask for driving school. then you MIGHT still get points.

and depending on your insurance co, they might raise your rates even if you go to court, so driving school will keep the points off you license, but not help your insurance from skyrocketing.

oh, and don't go to the DMV about tickets. that's not our department. Highway Patrol, sir.

i had to do a "traffic school" in MA. but the only people there were repeat offender speeders, racers, and wreckless drivers. you probibly wouldnt go for just one ticket... unfortunatly i had to. i like to think of it as "criminal drivers-ed"

If you go to court and the cop DOES show, the first thing he's going to say is, I already lowered that ticket it used to be XX over. At that point, you've lost any breal you may have gotten from the judge.

Well i guess on this one i can Say California FTW.

Everyone either has a lawyer to fight tickets, a 11-99 license placard, traffic school, or they know the loopholes in the California System.

either that or the cop doesnt show.

worst case scenario is 2 points on your license...which unless ur a repeat offender (alot of points) its not gonna raise ur insureance to much.

Hmm I always read these threads about Tickets in other states...seems alot worse then what CA drivers have to go through.

also while kinda on the subject, does anyone know what happens if u get a ticket in Oregon with a CA License and registered car. 15 years back my dad got a ticket for 95 in a 70. He paid the ticket the same day at the court house and nothing else happend. Is it still like that?
