Other than the burns, he only had a few broken ribs. With the burns however, the biggest risk is infection. And then of course any complications associated with surgery. He'll be okay as long as the burns don't get infected.

I stood out there on the road, trust me there is a straight portion to that road. I watched many cars drive it, they did the inital turn, straightened out, then did the second turn. Those pictures cause it to look more blended then it is. I drove it 3 times today, you turn lfet a little bit, straighten out, then turn left again.
Something happened to him, if he was driving fast, that is not what caused him to go off the road.

I can see the straight area in there from the google photo. I think there are a lot of unknowns in the situation he may have been going fast and that might not be why he lost control, maybe there was an animal or he swerved to avoid something and lost it, I dont know. All i know is that being 21 and having driven an e46 m3 (last time was when i was 19) i know it is a lot of car and once its gone it can be a real handful to get under control and at speeds it would really be hard.
Now i have never driven the road or met you guys and i'm not under any circumstances trying to say what happened i think the only one who really knows is Zak, i'm just putting a hypothetical out there that it could be any of quite a number of things. At this point we should all be more concerned about his well being then what happened to make this horrible even transpire.
It's sad to hear that the burns are looking worse than they initially thought. I wish him the best in his recovery. I have a friend who was involved in a very tramatizing accident a while back and his recovery took him a very long time. You just have to be positive and hope for the best.

I don't know Zak, but I still have thought about his situation and have prayed for him a lot within the past few days. I feel for his family right now and his friends. What if that guy hadn't have been there to pull him out? He was very blessed and came out with his life--we should thank God for that.

I really hope he makes a fast recovery, between this and the accident i had about a month ago i am really seeing how easy it is to think that it just wont happen to you.. ussually i just brush these types of posts off and think to myself i would never get myself into a situation like that.. but you really never know.
I am not making any judgements on Zak or his driving, but that car is to much for someone as young as most of us are on this forum to handle. I know that i for one am not mature enough for a car that can handle speed like that M3 did.

There won't be any real updates for a few days, the bandages are still on from the first graft, and until they pull them off, we won't know anything more

They took the tube out yesterday afternoon and he was finally talking out. The first thing he said was "Those sons of a bitches on the helicopter wouldn't tell me where I was going." He is having some trouble talking but that is because his throat is so sore from the tube. He doesn't remember a single thing about the accident. I feel a little bad about not being down there, apparently he was asking if I was there .
I am going to head down a bit after lunch since he is about to go into hydrotherapy. I will have a lot of updates when I get back since they are changing the bandages and will know his condition.
