This is one of those perpetual arguments where both sides have some valid points and both sides have their "fuck-ups" too.
IE: Bikes should respect cars & cars should give bikes a little space right? But what about the cars that shift lanes or crowd bikes off roads? Then there are "bike folks" who ride in a lane like a car, but when it's a traffic signal they blow through it or a stop sign.
I try to leave them room and if they look like a possible accident about to happen, I get the hell away from them. Somethings are just plain ignorance too - kids bopping out from driveways or between parked cars.
Again it boils down to alot of talk and no-one taking the initiative to educate all parties.
Obviously you're not a cyclist. In many places, you can get a ticket or citation for riding on the sidewalk
Traffic court for our County is mixed, 3/4 road violations, 1/4 bike violation. We have a very bike friendly town with bike lanes everywhere and the bikkers still don't know the laws. I say, if you want to ride your bike on in the bike lanes you should have to go through some sort of certification so you know what the hell your doing.
^^^I can agree with that. There ought to be some sort of standard training program at an early age, so kids can develop proper habits and techniques. I never said bikers were the smartest people And I do understand Torque's frustration because too often people get on bikes without knowing anything or caring. Makes the rest of us who do look bad. Some of us out there actually stand there and wait at red lights, hoping to set an example, but it's usually a losing battle
Torques not frustrated, just pissed and at the end of his tolerance for stupidity. Trust me, I've been tempted to pull a "fender hip check" into a couple of morons but the consequences and the hassles aren't worth the time. I just figure they'll get popped by someone, sometime - then cry the blues. I just don't have the time for stupidity or morons.
