From a Ford dealer on trade in. It's a 2004 (I think) VW Beetle Sport 1.8t 5speed (Automatic also available). 150hp+ (depending on variation). 50k mi on the clock, cost her ~$12k about 10 months ago.
Could also look into a Mini Cooper, cute/sporty. I'm sure there are a plethora of other makes out there though.

jk, anyway, some things that come to mind other than BMW for reliable and sporty are japanese cars. celicas, rsx, integra. just dont get them all riced out with vtec and nos decals

although, if you're on the freeway and you don't have the S version, the semi truck sure as fuck aint gonna see you adn the slushbox regular cooper doesn't have the oomph to get you out of harms way.
