My brother was a Marine, best friend is a Marine, and his dad is a Colonel in the Corps. What's up? Maybe I can be of assistance.

I have been enlisted in the army reserve for 6 years and completed a deployment in Iraq in 2004.

A friend of mine had adhd, and he was on medication, when we were preparing to go they knew about his condition, knew that they could not supply him with it, and decided to terminate his enlistment, and with it all his educational benefits and bonuses.

you can try to enlist, but in all honesty just tell them everything. you will be better off in the long run because eventually it will catch up with you.

Don't they check ur piss? When you go for the physical, before the enlistment is complete, they check you up in detail right? If so, getting that piss test would show all the drugs in your system. So they'd find out rather quickly.

do they care if you once took it (like at age 12) and no longer require it?

they don't care under age 12 but i took it past that point. and actually, since i haven't taken it in over a eyar it wouldn't be in my piss, the only way you can find remnant methamphetamine is through a spinal tap.

my worry is because i am reading that ADHD and ritalin use is an automatic disquilifier at MEPS and the appeal process is more than a little lengthy for ADHD/ADD and ritalin because its a methamphetamine and a "mind'altering drug"

The Corps will DEFINITELY know about it. They don't play around. First and foremost, you are a trained killer. They can't take chances like that in the field, especially when they are giving you all crazy types of vaccines that could interact w/the meds you are taking. Hence, they are anal about medical records. . . . . come to think of it. . . . they are anal about EVERYTHING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Finally, they take blood samples multiple times! Shit stays in your blood a LOT longer than it does in urine. I advise against it. If they find out your were lying, you could get discharged and lose your bennies. The Corps is like no other branch of service.

Be up front about it.

i'm loking for a career, not just let me do some time, feel special, get out. and i wanna make a difference, even if that means that NOBODY ever knows what i did. as long as i go to sleep at night KNOWING i made a difference, thats all that matters.

I came to this revelation while listening to my dad blast me for my wasted freshman year. I realized i'm tired of fitting into this family norm of going to law school, med school, being an engineer, banker, etc all these high paying jobs because the only thing i've learned from this is that everyone on my dad's side of the family follows these norms and they all shrare two common characteristics, they are all rich, and they all hate their jobs. Its not money that motiviates me, its going to bed knowing i made a difference that motivates me.

I'm thinking marines or army, i couldn't get air force (no MEP appeal for ritalin/add/adhd in the air force, i'm not into ships, subs, all that stuff. i think the army or the marines would fit quite well.

i also did a mock IST today and got 13:27 on the two mile run 79 situps in two minutes and 53 pushups in two minutes, so all in all, i think i'm in pretty good shape.

this might sound cheesy, but i'd really really like to be a scout sniper, i've always faired extremely well at the firing range when i got, i love every aspect of it (reading about it here and i love it) and most of all, i love the idea of getting in getting the job done and getting out without anyone ever knowing you were there.

was 96 your GT score on the asvab? Your PT scores are pretty good, so your probably wont have a hard time there.

as you already seem to know, all your medical stuff start in the same place, no matter what branch you join, that being MEPS. and most of your medical records and personnel records are the same thru branches since it is at the DOD level, thats your 201 file, etc. but definatly do not hide anything, because could give you a dishonorable or less than honorable discharge for faulty enlistment.

no matter what branch you decide to do make sure that you want really want to do it. at the least it is 8 years out of your life that you live and breath the military lifestyle, no matter what they tell you. 2x6, 4x4, 6x2 contracts, it is always 8 years. and you will never be the same as you could have been if you hadnt joined. for the rest of your life you will be saying military saying and mottos, and it will always be a part of your life, even after you leave it.

it is also a hard thing to have a family even a gf, etc., i know a lot of guys (and gals) do it all the time; personally i know i would have had a easier time in baghdad had i not had anything i cared about back home.

and do realize that you will deal with tons of bull shit, and sometimes you will be helpless to do anything about it. you might get bad first line leaders or commanders and you wont have any recourse, except maybe IG. and sometimes you might get excellent leaders, so its a draw.

whatever you decide to do, good luck. thru all the bullshit, there is no pride greater than putting on that uniform, and even when you dont do that anymore, that pride you feel and your love for this country will burn in your heart forever. thats how i feel anyway. . .

Good man, The military is an amazing place, provided you can put up with all the crap in basic. I left due to injury, but the time I spent there instilled an amazing amount of discipline. Keep us posted on your decision.
