Common misconception . . Mexico's Independence Day is actually Sept. 15. May 5th marks a battle victory over the French army & traitor Mexicans around the time of the US Civil War. Incidentally, its significance to Americans is that this Mexican victory prevented the French from adequately supplying the Confederate army for while. This allowed the Union army to build in strength to win the war . . not the only reason they prevailed, but it helped
