the OBD2 has a much better torque curve and the later 328s are getting better gas mileage than early 318s.

I have a 318 (granted it a Ti so its alot lighter) but with a standard its plenty to get you in trouble!

If your state has transfer tax don't forget to figure it in. but for $5k you should be able to find something reasonable, for example I am looking at a '95 540 for my wife and the guy wants $6k. Just take your time and go over any potential candidate carefully. The time you take could save you thousands in repairs.
