anthro culture research

I have an anthro paper/research to do. It has to do with an outside culture. I was thinking about finding a tradition or holiday that seems unusual to a westerner. Any ideas?

You could look in to Hinduism. It would probably give you a lot to go on since it's polytheistic and most religions we're used to are monotheistic. Just a thought.

Boxing day?
Eating the Placenta?
Opening christmas gifts on christmas eve?
Uniqes? (sp?) <--- Japanese custom... from the Empieror days.
Muslim head garbs?
Why Muslim men never wear shorts?
And I'm sure there's a whole bunch of odd customes in Africa...
Drinking the blood of a cow, fresh.
Lip Disks
Flesh cutting
Female castration? <--- very sickening, cruel, and totally fucked up

and i'm sure there's more...

what's wrong with castration? some people shouldn't have the right to reproduce. most specifically, white trash.

^ these are preteen girls that, on the onset of puberty, have their clitoris cut off. The reasoning in that tribe is because reproduction should not be enjoyable for a woman, it should be a duty (or something like that). These aren't mature drug addicts continually popping out kids. These are innocent children, before they are capable of even giving birth.

Now, seriously, it's fucked up. That sort of thing is along the same lines as rape. The brutal robbery of youth and sexual disrespect of unmeasurable porportions.

I hope I've clarified that.

This is actually a really interesting practice. In no way am I for it, but I've read about it and it really opens your eyes to the plethora of ways different things are viewed in different cultures. If you end up doing your paper on this, the book Facing Mt. Kenyaby Jomo Kenyatta is very helpful.

flip the question and answer how they would find our customs wrong for added support.

besides, i think the female castration would do it.
