Everyone needs to cool down. When I was in Texas last weekend I was there for the Dallas demonstration, while I wasn't crazy enough to go to the demonstration I did get a new appreciation for the immigration issue. The issue really isn't about illegal immigrants. They already broke the law when they got here. They need to break the law to stay here (working off the books) because we make them.

The real problem is now and always has been the welfare state. Immigrants take the jobs americans don't want. Don't want, well why should they want it if we will pay them not to take it. Minimum wage only pushes up the floor. I know people who worked hard and got raises up from minimum wage and when they raised the minimum wage they were right back at the minimum. when you keep pushing up the bottom it doesn't make them live better it just sets a new bottom. It drives inflation. so if you were making $5.15 two years ago, and now you are making $7 and they raise the minimum wage to $7 you lost 2 years worth of raises and you are in fact making less than you were before they raised it. your wage is always relative to the bottom.

but people don't see it. so drop the minimum wage, (but people can't make a living without it) the illegals do. They often work for less than minimum wage because they keep all of it. our taxes for legal work is what makes it impossible to live. You get FICA off our backs and we can do it.

kill welfare, (but the poor will starve) no they won't. They will get jobs, any job. long before starvation there will be a point at which they would rather work than starve. Use the welfare money to offer free education. Teach them to work, teach them a skill, put them to work. Use the money to fund food centers where the poor can always get a basic meal. But don't give it to them to not work.

change from an income based tax to a consumption tax. Income tax punishes you for working. we need to encourage work. The countries with the highest income tax rates have the highest unemployment rates. Consumption taxes, however high encourage savings and investment. the higher the consumption tax the less you will want to spend. it really is that simple.

As for the whole flag thing. They banned it not because of what it was but because of how it was being used. And while they may have gone too far, it was intended to prevent violence. I say fix the cause and not the symptom.
