Hello? By their skin tone, accent, and body features.
Columbian/Colombian...w/e
Don't "Hello?" me. You do realize a large portion of Latin Americans are white/cacaussian (skin tone/body features), don't you?
I won't even ask how you can tell somebody's accent from a picture. Also, I could bet my entire tax return that if I called you on the phone you would never know I am not American, that I did not grow up in the US, that I am from Honduras (Central America), and that I learned English from people for whom English is also their second language. The best way to know where people are from is to ask.
Not trying to pick a fight. Just trying to ... educate, I guess.

None taken. I always enjoy a good educated argument.

Well, you can claim that some people are being discriminating, but you'd be surprised as to how some people are able to hear things from the way you pronounce certain vowels and such. But, still, for the most part I too can hear a foreigners dialect. However, I have met quite a few that were taught English very well, and as such had almost no accent.
And just for the record, I have an accent, even though I was born and raised in the USA. My parents tried to teach me Hungarian when I was young and while at day care, was taught spanish (most of which is a memory but the way of pronounciation exists).

I tried to edit my most recent post, but the interface was begin teh ghey... anyway, it's all good. I wasn't claming discrimination. I don't think I ever have. I didn't feel discriminated against. I have been acquainted with the general culture in the US to know that there are some common misconceptions that can be cleared out and -- if anything -- serve as good trivia.

Ah, well, ok then. I get what your saying, it's all good. I was just throwing the discrimination out there as some people claim that others are doing it to them too easily. I was trying to not step on too many toes.

drz thanks for the spelling correction I will try to fix it, please note I was completly trashed when I posted this thread and looking at it now I dont know how I was able to type so coherently (i do remember taking like 5 minutes to type a couple lines though)

I know exactly what you are talking about. That upsets me so, so much. Many people that are part of an ethnic minority far too often try to make everything a discrimination issue. I think that if I accuse others of treating me in a certain way without having any concrete evidence, I am the one who has a problem with my own heritage, ethnicity, national origin, etc. I have no right to accuse others of being discriminating.
But this thread is not about sociology; it is about Colombian girls:
