Lookie what I found at work

OK, well, here's your chance to see how much of a dork I can be...

Since I'm a cashier at my job, the wierd things I find (aside from the stupid shit people do) are currency. I've collected some of the rarer coins and bills.

Seen below are the coins and a $1 bill. The quarters are made of silver for the most part (not sure about the 60's). The Mercury dimes are silver as well. The nickles weren't made of nickle in the yearly to mid 40's as WWII needed the metal for amumition. So they have a 'P' to distinguish them from other nickle made nickles. The pennies... aside from being real copper, are from the early teens, twenties, and thirties. I used to have a few steel pennies, can't find them though.

Next come the odd bills. Like on the picture above, the first bill is a $1 Silver Certificate. Kinda odd, I think it's like you can actually trade this in for $1 worth of silver. Not sure though. The $20 bill is mint... I thought that's kinda rare for a 50 year old bill. The $100 bill, well, it's from the depression... and to still be around after 70+years...

Ok, so I reveiled my dorky side. We've found some buffalo nickles too, just, I wasn't the one to find them. I guess this is what a cashier does when they are REALLY bored at work.

Comments, Suggestions, Putdowns?

Dough

Wow!

This reminded me that my great-grandpa who is still alive, has a collection like that. But books, of each year and place they were made.

And...just fyi...the "P" means that it came from the Philadelphia Mint.

I like it. Is this your hobby or do you do this just for fun?

And, if you were to sell this....how much would you want?

Well, in all honesty, aside from the quarters and the dimes... the rest of the coins only have a face value. The bills... well the silver certificates are maybe 3X their face value.. and the $20 and $100, i'm not sure. I have no idea. So to answer the question, it really wouldn't be worth anything to anyone. All are in circulated condition . I would love to collect US currency bills. I find them facinating... especially the "educational" series from the late 19th century. Those are just beautiful. But, alas, I cannot afford such things.

$3,000 you mean? My friend, I think that's for one that's in MINT condition, never used. I think each dime is worth ~$2 to $10, depeding on condtion and what not.

Yes, I think that would be realistically speaking.

I used to work at a movie theatre, and recieved $2 bills. I started collecting them...and I have several. They're pretty cool.

I love the backing on those... The signing of the declaration of independence I believe. Yea, they are cool and easily in mint condition as people always do save them.

BTW, education series bills look like this....

Yea, there are several Educational Bill designs... that's just the $5 one. there's also one with an native American on it and serval others. They are all highly decorative works of art, imho. I've seen them on Ebay for ~$600+. In other decades, aside from issuing silver certificates, the Treasury also dished out GOLD Certificates. Those bad boys are highly rare as they are obviously different than regualar bills, however, if you ever find one, take it's face value and multiply it by 50 (at least). In case your that lucky, here's what one looks like that is the most slimilar to contemporary bills:

If you find this SAVE IT. It's worth $2500. They also came in $100,000 denominations (you'll never find those, ever.)

And just to make this one of the longest posts.....
the new $10, $20 and $50 notes are reverting back to the decorative era. Aside from having more security built into thier printings, they are also more attractive.

I just wish that instead of sticking a building on the back that they could stick a historical moment in US history, like the $2 note displays.

Just my opinions.
