Police Make Public Intoxication Arrests Inside Bars
IRVING, Texas -- Irving police have taken their fight against drunken driving to a new level. Irving officers and state agents targeted 36 bars and clubs Friday and arrested some allegedly intoxicated patrons before they departed the businesses.
The officers also kept watch on bartenders who might have over-served patrons.
Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission agents arrested 30 people Friday night. Most of the suspects now face charges of public intoxication.
The agents and Irving police officers traveled from bar to bar and worked undercover, according to an NBC 5 report.
The report also said that some agents shared tables with suspected drunken patrons. Some patrons were subjected to field sobriety tests inside bars.
Agents and officers said the operation represented an effort to reduce drunken driving.
Sgt. Chris Hamilton, of the TABC, said some inebriated bar patrons "end up killing themselves or someone else" after departing the businesses.
Um, no. That's horrible. What if they were planning on getting a ride or taking a taxi home?
Add insult to injury, Irving Texas is a "dry community" not a single liquor store or place to purchase take out beer etc... The only places you can buy liquor or beer is the few bars they have. Go figure, you can't drink in Irving but you can have a loaded handgun in your glovebox.

Hey Hoppy (our resident legal expert) - what's the legality of "powdered donut sobriety" tests?
"You are charged with possesion of 2 glazed & bear claw - how do you plead?"
However I thought 99mike323i was the ex-popo. Why Hoppy?

haha YES! my main defense stratagy is the "Case for the case" strategy. il give allt he juriors a case of beer to find in my favor!
haha im a CJ major so i know the basics of things. i admit i dont know much about specifics though!
i have heard that some laws are writen in a way that allows drinking in a bar. to the point at wich you are a risk to yourself or others (physicaly or interms of alcohol poisoning) or become "social unacceptable" that is. drinking but not being drunk, but then again there are also laws about spitting on the street, in Anniston alabama You may not wear blue jeans down Noble Street, and in boston its illegal to play the fiddle.
obviously most laws are outdated but sometimes never removed from the books, and there are even more laws that date back to the states religious founding, such as MA's "Blue laws" that outlawed alcohol to be sold on sundays
eh im ranting
