Google Office

http://www.writely.com

Have you guys been following this? Writely has been acquired by Google, and now there's speculation everywhere about an online google-ized version of Microsoft Office.... completely free and complete without the crashing and blue screens.

Sign ups are closed until they finish the migration to Google's servers... however I'm watching for when they open up again. I'd like to try it.

Curious, how is google able to have so many REALLY good services yet have them completly free? Is it really just those minor ads they have on thier main search engine?

I've always wondered that too. Is it from selling their engine to sites to use for their own engine?

Google is just a weird company. As far as I can tell this is how they do: http://www.google.com/services/ Their main goal was to infiltrate the market, while being supported by VCs. Since they have a broad userbase, they can while their magic wand of sorts and demand money + their stock is at a ridiculously high freaking price.

Google adsense is on MILLIONS of websites, and everyday they probably make anywhere from a few hundred thousand dollars to millions of dollars in commission alone. Plus search engine adsense, and the adwords beside the gmail service. They're quite financed.

There's now growing speculation that Google is going to buy out Sun.

I predict that in 10 years, the Internet will be renamed GoogleNet.

Sort of like that 'GoogleZon' thing I'm sure most of you have seen ...
