In PA, we don't have to take a courese either. You go take a written test when you're 16; you pass, you get your permit. Six months later you can take the driving test for your license.

At 16-1/2, you can take your written test and get your permit. But you can't take your road test till you're 17. If you're in high school, driver's ed is mandatory, and it leads you up to the point where you can take the test on your own. It's done that way because you can drop out of high school at 16 with your parent's permission. At least that's how I remember it.

oh well here you can go enroll in drives ed anytime after 15, and get your permit... anytime between 15 and 16 you can take your written and then the day you turn 16 if you have finished both you can get your license

funny that this thread came up cause my parents called me on thursday night asking what i was doing. i guess a red bmw ran a couple cars off the road and got in a wreck. not the m3 and scion race from two or three weeks ago that was in the NW as well, but a seperate incident thursday night (3/2/2006). i was at the bars but it has been nuts around here lately with stupid reckless driving. I'll be the first to say i drive stupid sometimes but i never do it when it endangers innocent people i share the road with. usually late at night on the freeway with no traffic or in an empty parking lot.
