That all depends on the state. MOST states say the left lane is for faster traffic & passing... butttttt in Illinois, they're taught and it's recommended by their DOT to drive in left lane and use center & right lanes for merging on & off hwy. Ask any of our "bros" in Wisc and surrounding states of Ill. - These folks are commonly known as F.I.B.s - "F#$%king Illinois Bastards". (my humblelest apologies to UBers in Ill - but your DOT is RETARDED!)

And at what point is it not neccessary to be a dick behind someone... seriously. If I'm crusing at 80, and ur doing 100... there's gotta be a point of limitation. Your going way to fast and should seriously consider wtf your doing, seeing how we're in a 65mph zone. I'm crusing at 15 over... ur doing 35 over. That's a 30 day suspension my friend. And when your in traffic, wasting all that fuel to pass someone aggressively really isn't worth it just to gain one car length.... just my two cents.

Sorry to be a parental about it, but, it's a pet peeve of mine.

Yeah, but you should still move out of the way. If I decide I can go 100, then I will ... you being in the left lane will hinder my progress for 2 seconds and then I'll pass you through either the right lane or the shoulder ... regardless.

not that I would ever pass on the shoulder

mainly because there is a lot of debris there.

, esspecially if there is no one in the next lane over, just be curtious and get the hell out of the way. My pet peve is people who just sit in the fast lane, even if they are going 90 and I cruise up and the next lane has no one there just move out of the way. If i'm going a at a good rate of speed and there is no one in the left or middle (or right if 2 lanes) lane i'm moved over out of the left lane to let other crazy fucks go by. If your passing someone its a different story.

*edit, it also makes it safer if you move out of the way because then i'm not darting through traffic, probably increasing the chances of an accident.

exactly if you want to slow down to avoid the ticket, I'm not going to stop you. But if you do it in the left lane i'll get pissed. If there is only 1 lane then there really isn't anything I can do except pray that you will turn soon.

But the real question is would you have slowed down if the cop wasn't there? And if not would it be safe to say that the speed you were traveling at was a safe speed for conditions? Then why isn't that the speed limit? People will tend to drive at a speed they find safe. (note I said tend and not will) if police didn't hand out speeding tickets would everyone suddenly start doing 120 everywhere? No, people would travel at the speed they consider safe. And as long as you do it in the right lane I don't care if it is 5 mph. Police and speeding tickets actually cause more accidents than they prevent. When montana had no speed limit the number of fatal accidents actually dropped. So who sets this magical limit? the driver. But won't some people go too fast? Yes and they will get into accidents. It happens all the time. Even now.

I'm more than happy to let stupidly-fast drivers pass me. They clear out the cops up ahead. A scout in a minefield if you will.

It's called, "running blocker"....

Rig’s running illegal contraband or grossly overweight vehicles will occasionally have a car(s) "run(ning) blocker" for them to clear the police for a safe passage to their destination....

It is an old and wise tactic used for years.....

Good point, but I just don't see why? In my area, they're usually the younger kids, trying to act all tough, seats lounged back and one hand on steeering wheel, god knows where the other hand is at. And they usually have the PBA shield in thier window... like it's some sort of magical, get-out-of-ticket badge. Sometimes, just to piss off these numb nuts, I'll go slow. You think it's annoying that I'm going "slow", I think it's annoying that your going dangeriously fast. How about that speed demons?

It's not just your life on the road.. it's mine, my girlfriends, and other people with families on the road. Saving yourself 5 min isn't worth the risk your putting everyone else in. I don't care how easily you can drive in that left lane. The reaction time needed per mph diminishes greatly as you approach those high speeds. If you really have the need to speed like your on crack, do it at night, with NO ONE on the road and hit a fuckin deer.

No offense to anyone, but it's just stupid to do any speed you wish to travel at or "feel comfortable" with. Comfort doesn't have much to do with it as your reaction time and your car's ability to react. If you feel comfortable doing 100mph in a straight line, fine, but what you gunna do when something crosses your path unexpectedly, ie, trash container falls out of a pickups bed, rocks flying out of a dump truck, lil' old ladies trying to pass someone, someone trying to merge... endless list...Shit happens out there, I just hope that none of my fellow united drivers (or anyone really) dies cause of thier stupidity.

Again, no offense, but i'm just speaking my mind about something that some of you younger drivers should seriously consider.

2 questions, how old are you?

1st: you must understand that people are in a hurry, and honestly, my view is, if people want to go fast, respect that, and if people want to go slow, as slow as 5mph, respect that as well, but dont get in each other's way!

secondly, the only time a driver is risking other people's lives(that arent in his car) is basically when he is drunk. If a fast driver is driving fast and someone cuts him off, thats not the fast driver's fault. And besides, when people drive fast, they are very attentive, they concentrate much more than someone who is just sitting back, relaxed

Stop arguing....you only are digging yourself a deeper hole.

I think you lost, and he made some very crutial points to the argument that most everybody would agree too.

Keep in mind he does 15 over.

whatever grandpa!! lol jk

not to "elevate the situation" but just keep in mind that everyone has a reason for going fast, and a lot of times its not for fun or pleasure...

Dude, I'm 24. I've been driving since i was 16. I've gotten speeding tickets and such. I know the need one can get because of being late or some other BULLSHIT. It doesn't matter, its not worth it. I had to learn the hard way, perhaps, most of you must as well, like i said, i just hope that it doesn't kill anyone in the process.

And refering to your second remark, thats rediculus. Any driver can risk anyone's life. If someone "cuts" you off, it's not because their being a dick, its because they couldnt' see you as you were comming too fast. Thier reaction time is impeeded because of your exceesive rate of speed. And if your 1% wrong, ur wrong. That's that law, at least here in NJ. And I'm sure that doing 40mph makes you much more at fault than someone who's just trying to pass someone. Oh, and if your always going at those speeds, your relaxed because your used to it. So your reaction time would be the same as if you were traveling slower. And younger guys, if you continue this, just know that the older you get, the slower your reaction times become, generally speaking of course.
