New tires, big subwoofer.

BOOM BOOOM BOOM...
I'm happy now.

I got my pirellis, & I finished construction of my subwoofer box. (aside from internal caulking for air leaks, 30 minutes) 3 PR, 5.4 cu. ft. box with an adire audio tumult.

Looks like adire audio has changed it since I got it 2 years ago, I'll have to find the archive of their website from 2 weeks ago when their website still was pimping it. Fuck. they have a new one now, I gotta buy it!! GOTTA BUY IT!
Ugh! And the new ones are at least $150 more! Shit Acoustic Visions (dealer)

Well, at least the old ones (the one I have) handles 1600Wrms at I think somewhere around 1khz :D ISO standard test. some high frequency tone for an hour. The test is: Run the tone at increasing wattage every hour until the voice coil fails. Thats how you find out the electrical WRMS :)

try spraying some Undercoat from Dupli color on the corners, it's kinda link Spray on dynamat....

bitcore 04-29-2005 09:02 AM

The box does need a little more bracing, but nothing I can't handle and do later on. I've thought about some sound deadener on the walls to absorb the higher frequency resonances (300hz and up = bad) but pressure isn't that much of an issue in a Passive Radiator alignment (or other alignments with ports) since most of the air is just moving back and fourth instead of changing internal pressure.

I'm not sure if I want to stuff this box.... It's already a cubic foot and a half larger than recomended ported box size (4-4.5 cu ft.) (taking into account the displacement of the tumullt motor and 0.08cu ft for each of the 3 PR's) and I still need to add 500-700 G of mass to the PR's to bring the response curve back down to a nice eaven rolloff.

komodo 04-29-2005 09:06 AM

Nice... but it's not off-topic. moved. :)

1,600 watts rms.... did I read that right? That thing would THUMP. haha

bitcore 04-29-2005 09:19 AM

not off topic? what are you talking about?
Yah the tires are going on my E36 but this is not ABOUT my e36 lol. The sub is for home theater. It won't fit in my trunk, or the back seat. (I'd probably have to remove one of my front seats to GET IT IN there)

BTW wattage != != != SPL
if your an SQL guy.... wattage <> SPL... But to reassure your statement since it is infact loud.... This bitch will shatter glass and I'm sure I'd have a large problem if I managed to fit it in my car.
Yes, that is RMS wattage.. Peak, let's say, a DC spike for 0.5 seconds, it'd probably handle 4,000 watts. You'd have to brace the cone since it'd blow itself apart but the voice coil would be fine :)

komodo 04-29-2005 09:32 AM

OH!! Haha!

I thought home theater at first, but then I saw the tires and assumed the enclosure was a sub box standing on end (kinda looks like it). haha, oops. moving back. :cheers

528man 04-30-2005 11:20 AM

looks good, post pic of finished product for sure

Rooz 04-30-2005 11:45 AM

bitcore, make sure u don't let those tires seat like that for a while, otherwise they will get flathend and u'll need to get them streched...

Oh thanks. I'll go flip themj onto the tread now and rotate em every few days. (They've been like that for a few days)
They were probably shipped on their sides and stuff, I see them like that all the time so I assumed it's fine for a couple weeks.
Since I'm posting, I managed to fit this in my back seat (It\'s perfectly big, it has like 2 inches clearance total to squeeze it into the back seat. I\'m going to charlotte today to pick up my buddy\'s equipment and test it out while we are up there.
This oughta be loud as shit.

Dude, the pressure inside of a tire is great enough to stretch it to Japan.

You just let them sit like that.

Rooz 04-30-2005 04:29 PM

Torque, have u never seen tire strechers? I am only saying that to bitcore bcs a few days ago, at the shop we were going to put tires on one of my friend\'s car 225\'s and he had 17*8 rims and the tires were "compressed" just by sitting like that for a month... he had to get his tires streched before we could put them on

bitcore 05-01-2005 12:20 PM

who cares, they are on the tread now anyawys. I\'ll wind up carressing them one day and decide to rotate them for the fun of it.

BTW: This sub fucking OWNS. Unbelieveably clear and smooth.

witeshark 05-01-2005 01:45 PM

Wow! A sub like that can shatter whole glass buildings! :laugh
