i understand about the jewelry, our anniversary is on valentines day, 9 years married bro. she has just in the last couple of years gotten into a little bit of gardening, so i plan to get her a botany lesson at the conservatory we have here. after that i am all out of ideas for gifts for her. at x-mas i got her a palm pilot and she loved it. but the next gift i get her is going to have to come from the heart of the ub members.
Gifts for the wife/GF should be something special and not expected. Don't pull a Homer Simpson & buy her a vacuum cleaner or bowling ball.. 94 had the right idea - going away for a weekend or even a night at a fancy hotel - something that isn't so commercialized. Flowers & candy are so overdone these days - be creative do something that's not what the masses are doing - you'll be a hero. you only live once make it count with someone you care about.

actually, fixing up old jewelry is a great idea, for our 7th anniversary, i was able to sneak my wifes engagement ring away, with her wedding band, i told her i was going to get them sauldered together so they wouldnt twist, and along with that i got a new diamond that is twice the size of the original put in, what a night that was man.
I'll take it under advisement, but she told me that she didn't want a bigger diamond. She wanted the one I gave her all those years ago. (12 now) The old ring can't be fixed it was hand engraved, so it is wearing the design. not much I can do about it.
I'm still sitting with some new earings and possibly a nice matching ring or necklace.
Heh, my gf left her (cheap, nothing fancy, costume if you will) earrings at my place recently, and I put them in my pocket to bring them back to her, but somehow managed to lose one of them. I felt kinda bad, so I went out to the Shane Company and bought her some replacements. White gold earrings with a pink sapphire and a small diamond accent. They matched a necklace I got her for Christmas (together a set).
