sony 21 inch trinitron monitor

my friend just gave me his 5 year old trinitron monitor. it is 21 inches, freaking big....

one thing that i noticed is that in the few minutes that i tested it, there are a few thin white lines going across the screen, and the color seems to be a bite faint.
is this normal? maybe needs some warming up?

it was also attached to my laptop if that makes a difference.

I don't know if this is what you're referring to, but all glass tube monitors have 2 horizontal lines- one at 1/3 from the top and one at 1/3 from the bottom of the screen. It's inherent in the design of CRT's and I forgot what they're for. Some manufacturers are better at hiding these lines than others. I think your monitor is just showing its age. Trinitrons are usually great quality, but you'll get the oddball one that doesn't last as long as expected

Older trinitron monitors have those lines built in. All of them have it. It's supposed to help eliminate glare for larger screens.

Small things like that drive me insane, but it doesn't both most.

But yeah, that's supposed to be there.
