THat's my idea too, I buy expensive stuff, but I pay it off right then... so I called my bank, they said they have a student scredit card thing but it has 13%

I don't even know the rate I got on my first credit card. It was probably like 22% or some crazy thing like that. I didn't care, because I got it to get my credit history rolling and to be able to defer payments to the end of the month. Most importantly, I didn't care because I knew I would be paying in full every month. After about three months, you'll start getting all kinds of offers for other cards. That is when you start getting pickier about rates, annual fees, etc.

hahaha someone offered an 18 year old a credit limit of 100,000... Torque is probably messing with you.

Many banks don't offer their own credit card, they usually go thru someone else, so it isn't always the best way.

Find the lowest interest, but most importantly, find someone that will actually offer you a credit card.

I went with First Financial Bank of USA...something like that... they started me with 150 a month... way low, but hey, it got me started.

So, from most you guys' answers I presume anyone who offers it is pretty much doing me a favor so I might as well take the offer?

If you get offers thru the mail, make sure they are legit and are not trying to rip you off... I have had a few of those...

If you don't mind having a lower starting limit, get a card from: http://www.1fbusa.com/ ... Keep it for about 6 months, then you will be able to get a card with a higher limit... they were pretty good for me.

Not bad as long as you plan on paying off your balance each month. If not, you're looking at 14% interest which is a rip. Shop around.

FYI: for those of you who don't pay your balances in full each month, the minimum payment is about to double (on average) sometime soon. It's a gov't effort to try and help cardholders get out of debt.
