I'm fat

Alright everyone. I need words of encouragement. I can take harsh words, just don't be assholes. I have been a fat kid pretty much since I was born. I got to where I was in pretty good shape after I graduated college. I was a decenlty fit 170 lbs, 5'10". Muscular with a little padding if you will. My entire demeanor is affected by my "fatness." A week ago I was 202.5 lbs. Saturday I weighed in at 198.5. I have drank a little tonight, so I am starting this thread becasue.. well, who cares anyway.

I know all I need to know to get fit. I think I am willing to put in the work.

I don't need diet or exercise tips. Believe me.

Just any encouraging owrds.

Be it how yoyu have coped with being "heavy: or did so at some point in time, or how you were able to overcoem it and never go back.

Anyhow, I guess you guys are reallly starintg to grow on me, becaue I am sharing serious deep indide of me shit with you all now.

words from us will not help you.

you need to find something to keep you active, something you enjoy.

for me, i just started road biking. it is something that i love doing... great workout, great trails near me... get to ride on trails along the ocean, or pch.. no impact(good on joints)

it keeps me active, and since i love doiing it, i keep doing it.

motivation...ummm.... take a high res picture of yourself with no clothes on (wear boxers...please...), side view showing your gut, then get a large print from a print shop... put it on the wall

Think of your future... if you don't like the shape you are in now, it will only get worse with age. I know its hard to get in the mode of staying active because it is so much easier to be lazy.... it is even harder when going to school and working (full time at that)....

Another thing to look at is what you eat... I have no idea what your diet consists of..but I can take a guess... instead of thinking of going on a diet, just start eating less processed foods, less fast food, less cola.
I do not know how hard it is for you to give up such things, I know it varies from person to person.

If you want to be healthy in the long and short run, you need to start changing your habits... I have also noticed that a good work out (usually in my case, a hard ride), i feel great after. If you get into a routine of working out and diet, you will have so much more energy, and will be almost a different person.

encouraging? i think words will only work on the short run though... so whatever anyone has to say in my mind, wont keep you going... you need to just find something that works with you, something you like

I haven't followed yoru links yet, but thanks again. I appreciate your tips, but like I said, I know what I need to do. My eating habits lately have been pretty bad. In theory, I strive for six protein-filled meals a day, with cardio in the early morning, and then a weight-lifting session followed by cardio in the afternoon. Chug about a gallon of water a day. Kind of went astray for a little while. Shall be in pretty good shape soon. It's just that my pants don't really fit any more. teh suck.

pants not fitting...all the more reason to be less fatty pants.

6 protein filled meals a day.... too much of anything is bad, of course including protein.
try to keep balanced of your intake and outtake

Well, you're overweight, but the good thing is that you're only borderline obese according to your BMI. But I feel ya, I need to lose a few pounds myself. Brien's right, it's not about weight, it more about a lifestyle change. Junk and fast food are often viewed as solutions to a busy schedule, but more truthfully they are a result of poor planning. A lot of people don't think about what they're gonna eat for the day, I already have it all ready to go and packed if applicable the night before. I run 5-6 days a week, but it's not enough and I really have to stay on top of my diet. My problem is not what I eat, but how much of it. And it gets tougher as you get older because your metabolism slows down through the years. So now is the time

It's funny that I'm reading this now b/c I just went to the gym last night for the first time in about a year. I also consider myself fat. Others tell me I hide it well but I know I need to get in better shape too. I graduated HS at 180 and I am 5'11". I was in the best shape of my life at that point.
Then I went to college.....all down hill from there. I graduated college at about 205-210 and now, 4 years later, I'm weighing in at 225. The only place where the weight has kept coming on is in my gut. After getting short winded by doing simple tasks, I realized that if I don't act now, it will only get worse.
I lost about 20 lbs last year doing the atkins (that was b4 I realized how bad it was for me). Needless to say, all the weight came back on in a matter of weeks.
My g'f and I are going to San Diego in 2 months and I don't want to be the fat, pale, new england beached whale. So we have started going to the gym and are modifying our eating habits. She too has put on about 15-20lbs in the past two years.
But the thing that keeps me motivated the most is competition. The best advice I can give is to find a few other friends of yours that also want to lose weight and create a competition. Set a designated time-frame (2 months or so) and all throw in $50-$100 (whatever you feel is adequate) at the beginning, and the person who looses the greatest body percent at the end will win the pot. Just a thought, if you are a competitive person, it will probably work for you. Good luck to you

I'm doing the same thing right now. I found out I was Type2 diabetic, I always knew I was a fatass, so that kicked my ass into gear.

I'm working out 3 times a week with mixed cardio and weights, and eating on my wife's mealplan (Type 1 diabetic). I've lost 15lbs and this is just the tip of the iceberg.

hang in there, and no matter how much the workout hurts, it is soooo worth it.

I went to the gym this morning. Third time in the past eight days. I have done stuff like this before, but I am just surprised by how much weight I gained in a matter of about one year. I have also started to feel shortwinded from simple stuff, so I am a little concerned.

Like I said in an earlier post, these pounds are also slowing down my car, so this is one of my performance mods for this year.

I'm going on a DIY partial Subway Diet

That is a brilliant idea.... wow.

Drz, well I could always ban you from UB so you don't sit around on the computer all the time. (joking, lol)

It's very impressive that you're being outward with this and motivated to do something about it. Also, if you keep these thoughts to yourself, it's much easier to not do anything about it, whereas if you let the world know, people will mention it from time to time, and keep you motivated, even when you want to give up.

Good luck and let us know how it goes.
