Almost exactly 2 years ago my mother was diagnosed with a cancerous tumor brain tumor. It was sucessfully removed and she had been cancer-free since.
Today she had to go in for a follow up MRI (every 6 months)...and they found that the tumor is growing at an alarming rate. It's already 2/3's the size of the original one...this is all within a 6 month period of time.
Where she's had brain surgery already, they can't go back in that way again, so the only option is to try and shrink the tumor with an RF scalpel.
Unfortunately, I just don't have a really good feeling about this. And I have to break the news to my daughter somehow, just in the off chance something drastic happens in a very short amount of time.
This just turned into what's going to be the suckiest Christmas ever...shit.

I am sorry to hear this. No time of year would have been a good time for this to happen, but it sucks even more that it is around the holiday season. Do the doctors know what the chances of a successful RF scalpel procedure is? And what exactly is that?
My best friend's dad is in the hospital right now with bone cancer. Things aren't looking good for him either. It is a very hard time to go through, but you have to keep positive about the whole thing and hope for the best.
My prayers are with you.

Hey,
Sorry to hear about your mother. Don't get down yet, there is always hope and faith can be important at times like this. Your mom will be in my thoughts and prayers during this holiday season.
dude, sorry about your mom. You may want to inquire into some of the stuff that UPMC is doing in Pittsburgh, for several years now they have been working with single point gamma radiation treatment which supposedly can treat a tumor without causing as much damage to surrounding tissue. I'm not a doctor so I don't know if it will help in your situation but it may be worth a look. Good luck, and for those of with religious inclinations we will keep you and her in our prayers.

I couldn't have said it better myself.
My deepest condolences, but still try to keep your head up and remain optimistic through the holiday season. Think positive because with where technology is these days, if there is a way, the doctors will find it... and if there's not a way, it was meant to be.

I am trully sorry for you bro. Especially during the hilidays, this has to be really hard. Try to stay strong tho, for your mother and your daughter, because you may give them strength.

Thanks for all the best wishes, I really appreciate all of them. It's great knowing we've got a great support system going on here.
She starts all of her appointments on January 6th (oddly the day before her birthday). She'll have a better idea what the options are for treatment this time and what the next step is. She's definitely down, but I can tell she's trying her hardest to remain positive.
Thanks again 'bro's, I appreciate everything.

Keep your head up, man. My mom is in the same boat with her breast cancer, but she is a fighter and WILL make it again. I hope the same is true for your mom.
