Cutting Weight

Ok, I have an olympic lifting meet on Dec. 17th and I'd like to lose a few pounds for it. I currently weigh in at 172.5, and would like to make it down to around 165.

aside from...

-eating 6 low-fat healthy meals
-drowning myself in drinking water
-and running every day

what other ways do you guys know to cut weight? Any good recipes for food and such? Any weight cutting tips? Wrestlers will probably have the best tips.

Split your cardio into two sessions. Instead of running one hour, run 30 minutes before breakfats and 30 minutes some other time in the day, AFTER your weight training.

xsperf, by eating 6 small meals, it gives the body less food to digest all at once, decreasing how much fat you keep, and it keeps the body digesting over a longer period of time, which allows you to get more out of the food. or something along those lines. it's healthier

u pretty much have it all covered man, the only thing we wrestelers might do that i wouldnt recomend for u is the bing eating and work outs before a match to drop those few pounds for the scale...... but since u are doing it for a diff reason i think u have everything covered, the comment about 2 shorter runs in the AM and then again latter is a good idea, we used to do something like that in wrestling as well. Good luck in the compitition and let us know how it goes!

When's your weigh-in for the meet? That's going to really affect how much (and how you can cut).

If weigh-in is a week or so before the meet, you can cut your water intake to just about nothing...it's SUPER rough on the body, but the more you can sweat out, and not replace, the more weight you'll cut. Just BE CAREFUL!! Cutting weight is incredibly dangerous, as I'm sure you're quite aware.

If you have access to a sauna, buy one of the plastic workout suits, and get into the sauna and sweat your water out...just don't replace it.

Again...dehydrating yourself is just incredibly dangerous...but dropping water weight is the fastest way to pull pounds off the scale.

It is hard to comment as you haven't given enough information. If it is for an Olympic event, then I would assume that your fat % is low. Once you are under 15% body fat is is a long slow process to get rid of more.

Obviously, lean red meat, venison, chicken (skin off) and fish. Stay away from processed foods. Grill or steam your food. Even better, eat your vegetables raw or just warmed (excluding things like potatoes in this).

If you just want look ripped on stage, then you need to bugger about with your sodium-potassium balance.

Scales are for Fish.

no, it's not an actual olympic event. But it is olympic style weight lifting. Clean and jerk, and power snatch.

SNATCH

CLEAN AND JERK

no, hang cleans are where you do a power clean but don't let the weight touch the ground. Hang cleans help you work on your shrug and your pull when cleaning.
