Ghetto electronics stores

Those of you in the northeast have probably heard of, or shopped at 6th Ave. Electronics. I wanted to replace the crappy Aiwa head unit in my car, so I went there yesterday to pick up a halfway decent Clarion that could do mp3's, on sale for $88. The sales guy was about to ring it up when some kid in a hooded sweatshirt came over and started pissing me off, I assumed he was their installer . . .

KID: For what kinda car? What year?
ME: Oh it's for a BMW, I just wanna change out the head unit, thanks.
KID: Ah no man, it ain't gonna work, that's not what you want.
ME: You know this how?
KID: First you need an adapter for the antenna. And that radio ain't gonna work with your amp.
ME: I don't have a stock system, and I already have the adapter, thanks, but I'm good, man.
KID: You got an amp and subs? You don't want that radio. You're making a mistake, poppy.
ME: First don't call me poppy, and if I can just buy the damn radio, I'll be on my way. And I don't recall asking for your help. Who are you anyway?
KID: Aaight man, but don't bring it back. And don't curse at me. Control yourself.
ME: Who's cursing at you? Tell ya what- you wait outside, and when I'm done buying this, I'll come out and show you how much control I got. Sound good, bitch? See- now I'm cursing at you!

And at that he glared at me, so I stepped toward him. Then he put his hands in his pockets and walked away. Why do people start telling you shit instead of leaving you alone when you ask them to? Turns out he wasn't even an employee- I saw him walking out and get into his car. Probably just the sales guy's buddy, and was hanging out to try and score some work

Nope, not a thing. He was just watching it all go down, but I noticed he put his head down once I got really nasty. Which gave me all the clue I needed to figure out what this was all about. I didn't bother seeing a manager about it, because I figured he/she was probably gonna be worse than the two idiots. And I was in a hurry anyhow . . went home and swapped out the head units inside 15min

Here ya go. Just your basic no nonsense mp3 player, a Clarion DB355MP. And before anyone asks, the song playing is Just Like Heaven by The Cure.

And if this kid went for me, I would have taken care of it, but I don't look for fights . . too old for that nowadays

I hate people who think they are experts on everything. Most of the time they don't know squat about what they are pretending to be an expert in.

Too bad he didn't wait for you outside, that would have been a great story.

The head unit looks good. Do you notice any difference in sounds quality now?

A huge difference. For what I paid, I think the unit is a great buy. Not much on bells and whistles, but all I needed was a single pair of RCA line outs to connect to my 6ch amp. For some reason I couldn't get rid of this alternator whine, but after installing this unit, it was completely gone. Which means that the problem was the old crappy Aiwa head unit. The Clarion also keeps a much cleaner signal at high volume levels. I'm very happy
