i hate it when my dad watches these shows...

so my dad just watched a mustange history show. i hate it whne he watched anything about clasic american muscle. becuase he starts saying crap like "that could out run any of that new crap they make now." then i say something along the lines of "do you realy think that that mustang can out run a new M5?" then he ends the conversation with "quarter of a mile at a time, thats all taht matters." and "im old shool, and i always will be." so, does anyone elses parents do that?

Just laugh it off, he's just set in his ways. He views the american muscle cars the way you view the M5s. Your kids will be doing the same comparison. He's just frozen in a memory - don't burst his bubble, besides you know better

My dad constantly blahs on and on about how his Quattro utterly schools the "prehistoric" RWD of my Bimmer. When he does that, I point out that the added weight slows him down, the driveline resistance hurts his mas mileage, the fact that his car is a convertible reduces chassis rigidity, and that his beloved TT is built on a Golf chassi and runs most of teh power to the front wheels. At that point, i usually issue a profound "owned!" and leave the room.

Yeah, shpuz, your dad is just set in his ways. When he was your age, those cars were built for straight line performance. Nowadays, it's about overall performance, at least for me. The car is fast in a straight line, but how does it handle twisties? It takes twisties like it's on rails, but how well does it accelerate off the apex? Some may hate me for this, but that's why I don't watch much NASCAR. All out, go left. All out, go left. All out, go left. I prefer F1, the GT Series, and WRC.
