I do the default - normal one... I tried the others before and it seems like I can't figure out who is posting what or where I'm supposed to click on anything at all.

If the forum defaults to threaded, it's really easy to have conversations between two people and go off on tangents with other people.
Stick to the forum's default otherwise people destroy what you start.
