I've been gone for some time...
DISCLAIMER: Me and my roommates are throwing a double kegger right now. Yes, I know I should be down in the garage drinking, but I needed to come here and post. So, I probably have five or six pints of beer in me.
I am sure you gusy all noticed that I haven't been around for some time so I thought I would just give a little heads up for my dissaperence. A few weeks ago my computer started lagging hard core and kept getting worse. Eventually the hard drive crashed completely. I lost all of my information and my computer was out of commision for a few weeks. I got the HD replaced and now everything is good, but i'm very dissapointed that all of my BMI's and Top Gears are gone :bluecry1 So, here are the pro's and con's from this experience. Pro: -I have a brand new HD with a 5 year warrenty -I learned that I need to back up my information and that I need an external separate HD -I got my key board replaced (I am guessing that they broke it getting it out and that they had to replace it :dunno Con: -I couldn't post on UB for a while (worst thing ever) -I lost all of my information -It took 2 hours of labor to fix -It cost me $364.50 -I lost all of my shit Biggest lesson learned: I need to go buy an external HD and keep all of my worthless shit [read porno and car videos] on that. That way I don't clutter my good HD with stupid shit. Also I realized that all of the junk on my computer isn't really neccesary to have. So in conclusion, I am back and excited about that. I think I missed a bunch cause it looks like someone accused witeshark of not actually having an E30.... whats up with that :angry, he's like one of our loyalist members. That is all for now folks, I need to get back to my double kegger that were having right now :cheers |
Happy Party! Mac: Repair permissions. After every software update, and about every 2 weeks: close all apps and log totally off. Log on, go in Finder, Applications. Utilities, Disk Utility. After the message -getting disk information- select volume (below the hard drive name -upper left corner). Just highlight it. Now look to the lower two things are there near the middle, verify permissions, repair permissions. Click repair permissions.
cron tasks 1. Close all apps 2. Open Terminal (/Applications/Utilities). 2. Type: sudo sh /etc/daily Note: Typing "daily" runs tasks normally scheduled for a daily interval. Type "monthly" or "weekly" in place of "daily" to runs tasks scheduled for those intervals. 3. Press Return. 4. Enter your Admin password when prompted, then press Return. 5. Quit Terminal when the task is complete. weekly tasks usually require a longer time to run than monthly or daily. |
There's a program I use instead of step #2, called MacJanitor. Does the same thing (daily/weekly/monthly), but saves you the steps of entering/exiting the terminal and entering your admin pass . . saves time for those on the go.
Glad you're back, Real . . yes, back up, back up, and oh yea . . back up :D |
MacJanitor is great, I use it all the time as well to make things easier.
|
wanna know whats better than MacJanitor? having a PC!! screw mac in the butt.

|
You have not tried the revolution that is OS X. It's not even based on the privious System 9, but on FreeBSD (Nextstep)

Welcome back. :wave

Welcome back.
Don't listen to anything witeshark says about computers. He talked me into trying Linux and I spent the whole night fucking with the grub, partitioning, and getting the windows system files on the hard drive so I could install Windows again. |
Thanks for all the kind words and computer help.
Last night turned out to be so crazy after I posted this thread. We ended up dusting the second keg sometime around 11 or so and magically a third keg appeared while I was in the back hitting on some bitches. I just got home from work and there is still a little beer left so I think I am going to go drink one. BTW, I got my roommate to take a 3 beer beerbong this morning at about 10:30 right before I went to work. Then my other roommate got him to take a 2 beerbong with a shot of captn' in it (he didn't know there was liquor until after) shortly after. I think he played a few games of beer pong, and I just got home and found him passed out on the living room floor. So now I get to go write all over his face :devil |

fuck you mac's don't suck |
macs fucking own. for peope that use their machines for thigns that are productive [red not video games] , Mac OS X owns completely. Mac destroys Windows in every category but games. and the ability to have dual screens that aren't mirrored without a ton of hassle is soooooo nice.

Keeping my mouth shut this time :lol
But I will say this: I'm for whichever/whatever works best for the particular task at hand. I feel fortunate to have learned enough of both hardware platforms. Why sell yourself short? |
