I was sitting in class today thinking that eveeryone i see helping out with katrina in some capactiy. then i was thinking about UB. I was thinking that, those who don't know wehre to donate could donate to UB via paypal and then harry could send the money raised to a charity like the american red cross or something like that in the name of the UB community.

we have so many threads talking about the death and destruction in NO and the whole gulf coast area and not much about what we all could do.

at the moment this is just a discussion thread, so DISCUSS!!!

i know i'd be willing to donate to something like this where i trust where its going.

Call me a heartless bastard but I'm not helping unless I'm directly giving money/food/etc to someone. I don't trust the Red Cross or Salvation Army. And furthermore, after reading some discussion about the way some of these "refugees" are acting I would have rather wished they drown. go read this and tell me if you still want to help out as a whole.

I know there are thousands who are probably deserving of help, but as a whole, it sounds like a bunch of welfare-using selfish pieces of shit. And I will NOT contribute a dime to those people.

If I was guaranteed my money was going directly to a deserving family or indivudual you can put me down for 100 bucks. Until then, I'd recommend most of UB.C not to send a dime or a piece of clothing. Just keep working and paying taxes and your money will find its way into these people's pockets.

On another note, Chris your idea is a good one, but I don't think you have the resources to make this happen properly. I applaud your generousity though.

maybe ill take that back... i find it really retarted... because these people knew the hurricane was coming. they had plenty of time to leave but they didnt and now theyre screwed. i feel bad about other people that arnt being jerk offs because they deserve the help

This isn't the problem. The people who stayed were poor and couldn't afford in anyway to leave. It's quite a sad situation, but those same poor people are the ones shooting at rescuers and looting.

or find a member or someone we know that is close that will actually walk the money and give it to someone. Whenever money is goes through many hands, it seems to windup short by the time it gets to the intended recepient.

I won't call you anything but a moron. The Red Cross is the ONLY charity that is actually getting 99% of the money where it needs to go. UNICEF is like 85%, the thing withe the old guy that wants you coffee money for starving children is in the 60% range, and so on.

Handing crackheads that didn't make it out a 100 dollar bill is not only completely idiotic, but pointless as well. At least the Red Cross will clothe and feed the crackhead instead of letting him/her purchase more rock.

Those are appoximations based on a report I read after the tsunami struck last year. The raw data is out there, but I don't have time to dig for it today.
