the problem ISNT oil. we have no problem getting oil. our problem is that our refining methods are so inadequate that it takes a full barrel of oil to make half a barrel of gas. And thanks to the EPA guidelines, more refineries can't be built because there's no way in hell that they'd pass EPA plant emission guidelines. So basically, we've been using the same refineries since the 50's. I don't know what they're going to do now that half of those refinieries are damaged because if the guidelines aren't temporarily suspended, the damaged refineries won't be able to be repaired.

Last night i had one of those wtf moments.

I needed gas and was traveling on Rt.22 to find the cheapest. Sure I passed alot that were in the $3.50 range as I treked towards my usual spot. I saw an Exxon on the west bound side opposite a BP I think. The BP had LINES... the Exxon had no one. Both had a price at $3.19. Being Nieve to the situation, I went to the exxon on my side. Lights are all on, cept, they put trash cans in front of all the pumps! Fuckers! Some asswipe was in the corner just whistling away. Kinda creepy really...

Went to my spot, Hess by the Thompson exit next to the Office resturant. There were small lines there too. I paid $3.399. The pump stopped at $49.90 and the attendent over pumped it... not to the nearest dollar.... but to the nearest $5! I paid $55.01 for 16.183 gallons.

Dough

btw, drove home while bearly touching the gas pedal. Averaged 34mpg, till i hit the first red light, dropped down to 31mpg. I'm glad I trained myself how to conserve.

Thumbs down the US is too dependent on big oil

the problem is actually our dependance on big oil. we cant live without it.

we get most of our oil from the ghuwar fields in saudi arabia, which btw, is almost pumped dry. the alaskan oil fields can only produce about 1/20 of the oil we, as americans, consume everyday. so that is kind of not even a factor. AND on top of the fact that the saudi's are assholes and sell oil at higher prices just becuz their prince died, every oil refinery is the gulf is dead, the main port that we ship almost all of our oil through is dead (new orleans), and the "strategic oil reserve" only has enough oil to last us 43.5 days..... we are pretty much screwed!

here's some number's for you:
ghuwar fields are said to have 270 billion barrels left
alaska has about 10 billion barrels
the strategic oil reserve has 750 Million barrels left
the us ALONE uses 17 MILLION barrels a day

do you think we are a little dependent?

it's time for us to finally GO to alternative fuels, not research (becuz its already been done), but actually GO to full-fledged alternative fuels. skip over the "hybrid" shit, we have the technology to jump straight into hydrogen or whatever, we just need to get off our asses and build to infastucture!
of course, people are like, "but hydrogen is dangerous to transport and use.... "
"really, dumb shit? so is gasoline! we got over it and look were we are, everyone uses it! whoop-dee frickin doo!"

in conclusion, we NEED to get off our asses and do something. you and i both know that gas isnt ever going to go back down to $2.00, hell it may stay at $4.00, are you comfortable with that?

Why is hybrid bullshit?, Yeah at ~50mpg which is about twice the avg. vehicle which would cut the gas prices in half is totally "shit". Sure, we have the technology to jump straight into hydro-fuel.. but your little fly-by-night plan takes much more time than you anticipate.

the problem with alternative sources of fuel is that they are typically not the same performance wise as the internal combustion engine.
