Tensions already had been running high in the procession to the shrine in Baghdad's heavily Shiite Kazimiyah district because of a mortar attack two hours earlier against the site. The shrine was about a mile from the bridge.

Health Ministry spokesman Qassim Yahya said the casualty toll was 695 dead and 180 injured. Figures from other official sources varied somewhat because survivors were rushed in ambulances and private cars to many hospitals, and officials were scrambling to compile accurate casualty figures."

omfg. 695 dead! maybe now these people will see, america isnt the enemy, america isnt the cause of death in iraq. this will probibly be twisted against us.

I dont wanna go into the Iraq thing, but we are there to try and help them, I hope Hoppy is right and they see that we are not the enemy, but I doubt that. And 695 dead is horrible what a terrible loss of life.

im not saying we didnt kill people. thats what we do best. the point is. the insurgents are terrorising the very people they claim they are fighting for. the person who started the rumor might not have even been an insurgent or had ill intentions. we all know how things get twisted around. but the thought of the possibility of an attack on civilians, this possibility is so strong a panic ensued and 695 people died ( expected to hit 1000). thats terrorism at its textbook definition.

we dont target civilians. the insurgents do. on occasion some one tries to run a check point, and gets shot. that happens. hell if ur not bright enough to listen to the guys with the guns, then shit happens.everynow and then people get caught in the crossfire. by both sides. the civilians KNOW who the insurgants are, they live among the population. so the civilians should expect that when shit hits the fan, the place is gunna stink. not to mention we wear uniforms, dont hide in crowds of women and children. we dont behead our enemys on the internet. whats worse naked pictures with bags over thier heads or no head at all? i donno about you but i think beheading is worse.

the counts now over 800. and still the only thing ont he news is the floods. i mean ya its horrible for the people whos lives are ruined. but i mean, 800 civilian lives in a nation at war. arnt worth 10 minutes of airtime?

why is everyone soo negative? do you think that reforming a countries way of life and politics happen overnight? id rather lose 5000 friends and relatives in the process of reforming a country than any to a dictator because they didnt like him so he killed them...

a healthy safe way of life is priceless..why do americans only think of themselves?! seriously...jesus christ

BTW this isnt directed to anyone in particuler, im just soo upset with the lack of support from americans for what out soldiers and government are doing...we have the power to help so we are.
