well who knows, its doubtful that he actually does have a license

but i dont believe business's can have the same name, because i even remember fed ex had a lawsuit against expresso because the names were similar and they were "getting free advertising"

Sure, companies can have the same name (like delta airlines and delta bathroom appliances), ONLY if they are in different industries. For those of you who said you could, I personally challenge you to go open up a software company called Microsoft, start making a little money under that name, and see what happens.

As to what happened, I got a call from him today, but couldn't talk so I'm calling him back tomorrow. He's not a 16 year old after all. He sounds like an adult indian man. We'll see what happens tomorrow.

When you register a business - It can be the same as any other in that district... I'm not sure of the rules/guidelines of using the net.

sounds like you took a VERY professional and stern standing with him. You are correct in that the copyright he is using is extrememly fishy. I am sure this is nothing too hard to ahve to figure out.

I actually heard about a guy named "Mike Roe (not sure if thats the spelling) but he made a web business called "Mikeroesoft" and Microsoft sued him I think.

aren't you suppose to deal with your lawyer BEFORE contacting him. for all you know, he may have been around in 1996, and could end up sueing you for copyright infringement.
