Katrina was a tropical storm w/ 70 knot winds as she came ashore. Having feeder bands on water to the east to start crossing and out to the west at the end of crossing meant a spool up to 80+ knot winds before she left. Very heavy local damage is spread out all over the city. But nothing compared to what New Orleans seems to be facing!
