AS FOR the word whose pronunciation changes, it's polish, which becomes Polish once the P stands up for itself.
One caller and three e-mailers brought that to my attention over the weekend. But I don't mind a little repetition, because I have the patience of job.
I mean, Job.
Question
Jamie,
What common English word changes its pronunciation when the first letter is capitalized? I need the answer today, if you are able, for a trivia question. Thank you very much.
Sincerely, Mike
Answer
Hi Mike,
Thanks for your question. I think that the word would be polish. When it is capitalized, it means "relating to or coming from Poland"; when it is lowercased, it refers to something you use to shine cars, furniture, etc. I hope I got you the answer in time!
