first car...?

well im starting to look for my first car.... and i was wondering what car you do you think would be best for me. i would like a car with SOME power... atleast enough to be fun. lol. good MPG. handles well, or can be modded to handel well. NOT FWD. BMW or not.. it dosnt matter. nothing above 5,000. :doh i was thinking maybe a porsche 944 turbo. whatdya think? :dunno

A 944 turbo would be a great car if you find a well cared for example. Turbos are easy to abuse and the turbo central bearing may quit soon since most people (like my dad) forget to cool the bearing by idling for at least 3 minutes after a hard run. The E30 325i is a great economy and performance blend IMO :)

1991 BMW 325i:
0-60: 7.8
1/4 mile: 16.0
average MPG: 20

1991 porsche 944 turbo:
0-60: 6.0
1/4 mile: 14.6
MPG: 20

Turbos are always a better economy/performance blend because you have a smaller engine and can go easy on it and then nail it when you like and wanna exploit the power. But again, they have to be cared for :drive2

I was going to get a 944 turbo to work on this summer, I don't think it is the right kind of car for someone to get as a first car. Can you drive 5 speed? You could get a semi high mileage e36 325, or an e30.

well you can learn, good skill to have so you can basically drive anything. Also what kind of cars do your friends drive (i'm assuming they can drive by themselves?) as in if they are into domestics like camaros or something you might want what they have so you guys will be able to learn a lot about how to work on them and have a car club where you guys have the same car.

well get a nice car. I think a car with decent MPG and does good burnouts is fun!

E30 is a great first car to have and learn on. Or if you are really ambitious and don't care to much about what other people think get an 02 :p

A lot of people at my school back when I was in High School thought my car was a pile... but I didn't give two shits about them cause I knew I could smoke every single one of them in the canyons. And it really taught me how to drive well.

Enough about me though... you have a lot of choices for a first car. My suggestion is something that doesn't have too many computer aids so you really learn to drive the car right and not just rely on the computer to help sort things out.

i dont care what anyone thinks. i would LOVE to get a 2002. but the chances of me finding one around here are VERY small. .01% chance of me finding one.

let me jsut say one thing Porsche anything + 16 yr old does not equal low insurance costs

while you're looking at the car, make sure the insurance isn't astronomical, because later, that becomes a HUGE deal.

craig 08-16-2005 10:26 PM

yah i know......

htp.bmw 08-16-2005 10:27 PM

^^^
the insurance would be cheaper in an e30 325i
