Dotn forget insurance. Insurance is killer.

Buy an s13! It will come cheap, mods are cheap, fixing shit is easy, its a wicked drift car, its fun throught he corners, its still RWD, and most of all, it has more potential than most cars on any bmw boards!

lol drop in an sr20 motor for a grand, plus they handle better than any BMW in his price range with stock suspension, but for 5k you can get a decent s14. My bros was like 5500 and it was perfect with 66k miles or so.

Very nice. Yes xsperf you read correctly. The stock motor is a torquey truck engine. Ive raced my s13 versus 328iS's and have beat them. It's not that difficult, and all this with only a ka24. I have options. Turbo the ka24 or drop in a sr20 and the possibility of upgrading that motor for cheap!

edit: by the way if you end up getting an s13 let me know soon. My s13 is practicalyl sold (waiting for check). I put the stock exhaust on it and have the hks hyper one at the shop. It probably fits other cars, i dont really care to do research on that. Ill let it go decently cheap.

look, im not going to start a big argument with you here because that is like arguing with a wall, but if you turbo a BMW im sure the s13 still wont beat it

Not to continue the argument, but if the s13 were stock, then you are correct. S13's when properly tuned would put out numbers for a low price that BMW owners dream of. There really is a safe limit with a lot of BMW's. Lets say you turbo a e36 and put out like 350rwhp. A sr20 s13 could EASILY do this with the right turbo upgrade.

Im just saying, BMW's arent always the best cars in certain categories. For someone who is lookign for a starter car but who is defintely into upgrades, a s13 might be a better option than a BMW. It all depends on what the driver wants.

whatever it is, don't blow all your cash on it, make sure you like it, make sure insurance and parts aren't expensive(sure, an e46 is nice, but after a $500 door seal and $800 remanufactured alternator...), and make sure it isn't american.

shpuz, you dont want an s13, ive ridden in a few before and i really disliked it, trust me, for the money you will like a BMW much more, and stock it is MUCH faster if you buy an e36, and if you turbo it, yes you will beat an s13 turboed, but why does that matter anyway, i know that if you buy an s13 or a BMW you wont turbo it.. and lastly you will be proud of the BMW roundel

for 5 grand, you can DEFINETELY get an e36

Get a honda. I hear 92 Civic Hatchback Type Rs are fast, reliable and get great fuel mileage.

If you want a car thats not as comfortable as an e36 325, but handles better stock, get an s14 240sx: 95, 96 bodystyle, etc.. My bro is away or I would show you some pics of his. He'll be back next week or week after I believe.

And put some s13 cams in it for cheap! Good starting mod.

lol, he is merely joking, but in all seriousness, hondas are known to be reliable, i dont actualy hate hondas, the only hondas i hate are the ones that their owners try to make them "fast"

if you are looking for a compromise between speed and luxery, BMW is the way to go, reliability and price and economy, honda is the way to go, but please dont get an s13, you wont like it
