i think the 323 has enough power to keep you happy and you wouldn't have to worry about a swap, plus it will be newer so hopefully won't have to replace that much on it, i've had my car for 10 months and i've only spent about $200 on it not including gas money, the only major thing i've had to replace was the rear shock mounts which cost me like 30 bucks, so yeah i'd go with the e36, but the e30 does look badass

As much as I love e30's, I wouldn't want one if it was my ONLY BMW. I'm considering buying an e30 as a DD, but in all reality, my true love rests in the e36 chassis. It'll probably last you longer, and you won't have to worry about maintence quite as much (as long as you treat it right).

I have a 323 and it is plenty fast....I mean, the thing will go 135mph+ and there's not really a need to go much quicker. Although I do have plans of getting a GruppeM CAI and the JC Shark Injector in the near future to make it a bit quicker. I'm just waiting on a settlement check from the insurance company. Then my car will sound sick and be much quicker

Generally cos the e36 is newer you'd expect it to last longer - but I know what you mean, the e30 is, in a lot of peoples minds a superior build and the pinnacle of BMW 3 series cars. All I can say is that people all have their own opinions, and you really need to go with what your heart or your wallet wants, the choice is yours.

In the end I think you will be happy either way. E30 to me = a classic BMW that looks and handles great. E36 doesn't generally float my boat but if you look up a couple of posts you will see a prime example of how an e36 can look the fucking bomb (delorients), that is one e36 I would be proud to own.

Just take your time and buy what ever suits you man. In the end you may have to weigh up finances against what you perceive as your perfect motor but remember there's always another day and another BMW.

-I look at my 523 as a step into the world of BMW ownership that for 15 years I longed for - It's not perfect but it's a great car and I now have the choice of either
a: tuning her
b: trading her for a better model

Who knows which way i'll go???? I don't yet!!!
