Wake boarding is like surfing while being towed by a fast power boat, kinda water ski/surf board combined - fast power boats leave large waves behind called *wake* that fan out at about a 40 degree angle from both sides of their heading (path) in the water
Ya. A wakeboard is shorter then a surf board, and the basic principle is like skateboarding. I live on the Chesapeake Bay and have water skied for many years, and now that I have some money I want to buy a wakeboard.

I snowboard a lot in the winter and tried wakeboarding a couple summers ago and got up my first time. I picked it up very easily b/c it is so much like snowboarding. It is a ton of fun b/c you cut in and out of the wake and get mad air. I've been doing it occasionally ever since. I highly recommend you get into it.
i remember one time we rented a "speedboat" and we tried going water skiing, and when you go water skiing you are in the water and the boat is supposed to pull you up with its speed and have enough speed to have you on top of the water, but the boat was too slow and dint have that much pickup(something was wrong w/the carberoator it looked like) and the boat was brand new too.. so the next time we took our friend's boat with totally pwned(but we didnt have any water skiis)

wakeboarding is a ton of fun. If you haven't done it a lot it may take a few times to get up, but be patient. Also, falling is not always fun, just cause your in water doesn't mean it won't hurt

yes I have wakeboarded before quite a bit. I dont have a boat so I couldnt go as much as my other buddies did alll the time. One of them does flips/360's/540's like its nothing now! I still have trouble doing simple spins. It really helps a lot if you know how to snowboard though. Since I do, I had no problems getting up but the tricks were a little harder!
And as mentioned before, just because its water, does not mean it doesnt hurt!! Oh and if you can get access to a boat with a tower, DO IT!! It will launch you so much higher!

i ski, snowboard, skate a lil bit, waterski and kneeboard. tried wakeboarding. got up my first time, but it's by no means easy. if you haven't done any of the things i just mentioned, and do them well, you're probably going to fall on your face (more than a couple times) which hurts like SHIT
