i went sky diving today

so i jumped outta a plane at 9500 ft. free fall for 30 seconds.

this was my first jump. it was postponed due to wearher but then we went up. me, my tandem instructor, my friend his instructor, the camera guy, and one of the employes
on our way up to 9 to 10,000 ft the woman opens the door, ( about 4k ft) and drops out. at this point im like, holy shit. so the rest of the ride to 9k takes a while ( i mean like 20 minutes) cause were only in a lil cesna. any way. my friend jumps, camera guy, and now i am literaly hanging out the plane, attached to my instructor. and off we go,we flip over, back to the ground and watch the plane do a crazy ass dive, then we straighten out.
you gotta understans this as the most intensive feeling, the dropping feeling in ur stomach. the instinct to want to grab the plane. its crazy. so we fall for 30 seconds, pull cord( about 5k), thenabout 1000 ft latter the chute deploys fully. ( at about 4k now) and we start our descent.

now heres where it went bad. we hit a wind stream at like, 3k ft, the wind was pushing us backwards and away from out LZ. ( landing zone) so the way to get out of the wind was to loose altitude and FAST. so the instructor pulls on side of the chute down to send us into a diveing spin. let me say, spinning at like god knows how fast like 20 times while your stomach already doesnt know what the hell is going on isnt good. so finaly we straighten out, and manage to land where we want.

and up comes a little bit of the pizza i had for lunch. but not much

we take off the gear, talk to the guys, and head on our way.

definatly a crazy awsome experiance, i think everyone should try it, i plan to jump again some time

Jump out of a Cessna? Those are usually high wings, and doors not great for in flight opening! And most are too light for passenger jump out! ??

millitary parachutes are a bit different. because there round rather than the rectangle of the skydiving ones u cant conrtol them and they fall alot faster.

Average speed when falling is about 120mph, slower if ur tandem, but you can get up to 200mph if u dive right

ya modern sky diving chutes are an aerofoil. they operate under the same principals as a wing where as the round kind just slow the descent. with these new style chutes, as u come in you flare ( lift the upper edge to slow down) and come to a nice soft landing.

the solid doors were taken off, and there was a cloth door that rolled up put in place. with the exception of when the first lady jumped, the pilot cut the engine, if that makes any differance? the rear seat is removed and we sit faceing the tail. my friend and his instructor witht hier back to the pilot, me and my instructor where the passenger seat would be. the camera guy and lady at our feet.

Yes, for good reason. They need a straight drop, as fast as possible. You don't wanna take your sweet ass time while the bastards on the ground are shooting at you.

Wow that is awesome! That has been my dream for the last 3-4 years. Never got around to it though. I was thinking about skydiving chicago this fall. How much do you usually end up paying for a dive?
