SO, 2 of my friends and I went karting today, we had coupons for free memberships and buy one lap get one free. Man it was fun, the first lap we all sucked, those little karts are quite unconfortable and it takes some getting used to, but on the second lap we were the 1st three, lol, we lapped everyone once and lap some guy 5 times, lol

I went karting with my now ex GF and some friends. First 2 races my kart sucked. Floored, it weezed itself to a half crawl and everyone got mad --- I was in the way! 3rd race though! Woosh I got the fastest kart and walked right by the whole field First place! YAY! What fun!
karting is one of the best tools to becoming a better driver. You get instant response from your inputs and there are no computers to dampen anything.
My dad used to race back when he lived in Hawaii, he was two time state champion. We still take out his old kart (Yamaha KT100) every once in a while. It is so much fun. Once I get some money after college I will probably look into a 125cc shifter kart for weekend fun.

^^^True, but with a non shifter kart like I have, everytime you take it out you have to....
drain and clean the clutch
pull the chain
soak the chain overnight in gas
bleed the brakes (every other time)
flush the brake lines (every six uses or so)
fix anything that broke during the last run
choose the correct sproket for the track layout you will be running at the next event/track day
put the chain back on
lube the chain
properly tension the chain
mix your gas/oil (two strokes have the oil mixed in with the gas)
fire it up
adjust your carb
it doesn't really take too long to go through all of that. Usually takes me about 2-4 hours.
The real spending comes in when you have to rebuild your engine about twice a year. Since two stroke engines run at such high RPMs they wear very quickly. A rebuild consists of tearing the engine down, measuring your cylinder walls for wear, cross hatching the cylinder walls (for propper break in), putting your new rings on your piston, installing your new seals, and re-assembling. Then you have to properly break in the engine
Sooo....to sum it all up here, karts are great fun, but you really have to put some time in if you want to run them often. It is well worth the effort, but running it every weekend is a lot more work than going for a weekend drive with your car
